Mars_Pheonix.jpgPligg the open source php web-script for creating digg.com like social voting web-site’s has today achieved a feat we doubt any other CMS system ever will, Pligg has landed successfully on mars!. No you didn’t misread i did say landed successfully on mars and unless i am mistaken it will be the first Open Source CMS system to have graced the red planet.

ChuckRoast one of the pligg developers had submitted pligg to be included on a cd which was to be launched with the Mars Phoenix Polar Lander. Chuck claims after the successful landing of phoenix last night he received an email from “The Planetary Society’s Messages from Earth program”, Contained within the email was a message confirming that the Pligg CMS system had landed on the surface of mars. Other items included on the cd alongside the Pligg CMS system were classic works by Arthur C. Clarke and Ray Bradbury to Orson Welles’ radio retelling of “The War of the Worlds”.

Below is a quote from the email Chuck received.

As part of The Planetary Society’s Messages from Earth program, PLIGG CMS is now on the surface of Mars. Landing with you on the disk is Visions of Mars, a treasure trove of literature and art — from classic works by Arthur C. Clarke and Ray Bradbury to Orson Welles’ radio retelling of “The War of the Worlds” to a special audio recording of Carl Sagan delivering a message to the future.

Of all the great code in the world we have to send Pligg? let’s hope marshians can connect to the pligg forum for all the damn bugfixes you need to get this system running, hey they might even be able to pull some intergalatic mind trick on the developers to extract some useful information on the projects development schedule.

I can picture a marshian looking at pligg’s code base just now saying WTF is this mess? The best thing that could have happened is that the CD has been affected by radiation and is now unreadable only then can the human race be left un-embarrassed.
