pligg.no.entry.jpgWe had previous indications that the pligg team couldn’t handle criticism well from the experience of reading certain posts in their forums, now however they have turned to banning our forum user account for revealing that Pligg v9.9.0 is still vulnerable to automated PycURL bot spamming attacks. We posted a link in their forums to an article we wrote a few days ago here as to nudge them into fixing the vulnerability which has been outstanding for months, This however resulted in ourselves one of the more active contributors to the pligg project Banned Permanently by YankiDank. Oh! and apparently the ban was for Inappropriate Ranting and theft of some kind of content go figure that one out?.

pligg.holiday.jpgThe Pligg project has never been the fastest open source cms system to release updates to their code-base, over the past two months however it would seem updates to the project have went from a slow pace to a complete halt?. The latest release of the popular digg clone cms system v9.9.0 was released on the 1st January 2008, worrying news for the community is that the project code base has not been worked on since 12th February 2008.

Pligg spammers still a problem in v9.9.0

fat_spammer.png You probably thought pligg was getting better at dealing with spam entries, well you would be wrong pligg sites are a heaven for spammers and the developers haven’t even attempted the simple task in v9.9.0 of adding email verification to the registration process which would have helped greatly. First there was the PycURL SQL Injection spam, then there was India and SEO, now the latest would seem to be Australian IP’s spamming with bots and googlemail.com accounts.

Akismet Anti-Spam v0.4a Pligg Module Released

askimet.jpgBack in December 2007 AshDigg coded a great module for pligg that aimed to improve spam protection by using the popular Askimet service that was developed by the founder of wordpress. The module worked pretty well but one drawback was the increased time it took when submitting a story, with the wait being increased to as much as 45 seconds per submission. davy68 figured out a solution to improve the submission speeds of the module when askimet was enabled, like many other fixes for pligg in the past it was however not added to the module and an update was never provided. The Akismet Anti-Spam v0.4a Pligg Module has this fix applied and can be easily installed by anyone by simply uploading the new module.

Image Upload Pligg Module v1.03 Released

3 Mar 2008 In: Pligg Modules

Well i eventually found the time to update the Pligg Image Upload Module to be compatible with v9.9.0 of pligg without the need for the modules_libs.php hack that was required for v1.02. The latest version v1.03 of the image_upload module will work with pligg v9.9.0 only, story pages and index pages now show the thumbnail.

This module will allow your members to upload an image when submitting a link to your site

Install: Read the Read Me file that comes with the module.

Image Position: Position your image in link_summary.tpl with your CSS code.
