Digg Digg Round Three, Digg the largest social news website on the internet has just announced a planned further Series C investment of $28.7 Million, this along with $11.3 Million already raised by Digg with previous funding now takes total investment to $40 million.

Yahoo Buzz a social news network you guessed it run by Yahoo has now opened up fully to the public, before today only a small handful of publishers could submit content in a bid to iron out any pre-public release kinks. Yahoo Buzz is very much a mainstream social news site with huge potential.

In january this year Reddit announced the ability for users to create there very own custom reddit sites, custom reddit content is moderated by the created Reddit’s owner and selected moderators. Wouldn’t it be cool if Digg allowed this sort of custom digg feature, according to Digg CEO Jay Adelson in six months it will.

popfail.com wrote an interesting article this month revealing that 31% of the news made popular on the digg.com homepage was submitted by only 10 users. 10 users out of around 21 million or more is a very small number to control such a large share of popular stories.

Digg Social News website and it’s open source clone Pligg usually have very little in common bar the voting concept, Digg has had investment of around $11.3 Million whilst pligg has near to no investment. One thing they do have in common though it would seem is submission spam.

Digg has rolled out it’s new feature Recommendation Engine in BETA stage to some members of it’s userbase, Recommendation Engine is located in the Upcoming Section and selects stories that users with a similar taste to you have dugg. If you have a red BETA sign present on the digg upcoming navigation you have access to the new feature, not all members have access yet so if you don’t see the red BETA button you don’t have access yet.

Back in late November 2007 both Digg The Candidates and Yahoo Pulse launched in the midst of the growing presidential election fever sweeping the US. Digg’s political section has done very well since it’s launch and received a new design layout recently.
