Hi Lincoln,

Thank you for providing this excelent tutorial on getting rid of the unwanted ‘category’ in WordPress URLs.

I implemented this technique, and it does work, but on my webiste, I have categories nested within categories, and so when I try to go to a nested category page, I get a 404 error. Do you know of an additional work around for dealing with sub categories?

thanks Lincoln ! i’m using this trick in a new blog…works great!

One important thing to mention is that this changes are recommended to do in the beggining of the website development, if not, you’re going to have to edit manually a lot of url’s… (Example: images linking to posts, links that you’ve added by hand…)

It seems I am having the same problem as everyone else, this method removes the backslash (/) from the end of the url which causes many problems for example on my site the ‘Next Page’ link gives me a 404 error. Please could someone state a resolution for this? i.e. how can we alter the code you suggested so that it contains a backslash?

Hi,
Previously I was using a plugin called “Top Level Cats” for the same purpose. When I tried to upgrade WP to the latest version, that plugin started giving problem.

Thanks to your tip, I have now upgraded to WP 2.7.1 and everything is working perfect. Thank you so much.

Great Post,

Works perfectly, expect that you can no longer use ‘/feed’ behind the category URL, as it no longer works.

Does anyone have a solution for this problem?
